EDC’s Weatherman Honored as JA Laureate

Space Coast, FL (March 4, 2019) – Over the weekend, the Space Coast witnessed another historical launch, taking our county one step closer to restoring the nation’s ability to fly astronauts into Space. This launch is among many milestones reached by local industry, which have all been true celebrations for the Space Coast. Eight years ago, as Brevard County faced the retirement of the Space Shuttle Program alongside the longest recession in our nation’s history, leaders in the community were already planning an economic comeback. One of these leaders, Lynda Weatherman, President and CEO of the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast (EDC), was inducted Saturday night as a Laureate at the 2019 Junior Achievement of the Space Coast (JA) Business Hall of Fame Awards.

EDC’s G.O. Contract Program Leads to $15 Million Local Contract

Space Coast, FL (February 07, 2019) – Southeast Aerospace, a leading Aerospace solutions company, has announced its win of an exclusive $15 million contract from the Department of Justice to integrate and install Airborne Imaging Systems into a variety of both fixed and rotor-wing aircraft. The opportunity was first identified using the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast’s (EDC) G.O. Contracts program.

The tour will end the week with a visit to Puerto Rico to explore innovation and entrepreneurship with Chef José Andrés in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

Lagoon-Restoration Technology Hackathon Brings Innovation Solutions to Table

Hosted by high-tech incubator, Groundswell Startups, the 36-hour marathon event “Hack the IRL” brought together 16 diverse groups who worked collaboratively to compete for prizes worth over $4,400.
