The Home Rule Charter, granted by the Constitution of Florida, allows Brevard County to establish its own local laws and structure its government to be more responsive to the needs of the community.
The Florida SBDC is Florida’s provider of small business assistance, offering numerous resources, including sponsors seminars and workshops at no cost and fee-based courses and conferences that address a variety of topics, such as business start-up, basic management techniques, business planning, record keeping, specific industry issues, government contracting, international trade, marketing, social media and many others. The Florida SBDC at Eastern Florida State College has been actively serving Brevard County since 1990 as a sub center of the Florida SBDC at the University of Central Florida.

The Florida High Tech Corridor Council is an economic development initiative of three of the country’s largest research institutions: University of Central Florida, University of South Florida and University of Florida. Its mission is to grow high-tech industry and innovation – and the workforce to support it – in a 23-county region spanning the state. weVENTURE offers a wide range of programs and services to support the economic prosperity of the community through the growth of small businesses. weVENTURE offers a customized business mentoring program called IGNITE 360, business coaching and one-on-one counseling sessions, business education workshops, technical assistance, and networking opportunities with a focus on women entrepreneurs.
Enterprise Florida, Inc. (EFI) is a public-private partnership between Florida’s business and government leaders and is the principal economic development organization for Florida. EFI’s mission is to expand and diversify the state’s economy through job creation. In pursuit of its mission, EFI works closely with a statewide network of economic development partners and is funded both by the State of Florida and by private-sector businesses. EFI’s activities have championed Florida as the premier location for business expansion and relocation, created a renewed interest both nationally and internationally in Florida as a top state for business, and resulted in a significant number of new jobs and capital investments.
The Florida Virtual Entrepreneur Center is a web portal designed to provide a robust and easy-to-use tool for new and existing businesses looking for information and resources to grow their business. Funded by a grant from the Florida High Tech Corridor, this site is designed to easily locate local, regional, state, and global resources for starting, relocating or expanding a business.
Initially created in 2009 as a pilot program, GrowFL, at the University of Central Florida, is now a critical component to Florida’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and the state’s overall economic development strategy. GrowFL is dedicated to support and accelerate the growth of second-stage companies throughout Florida, by providing their leaders focused, efficient, and timely access to resources they deem important, such as connections with other second-stage company leaders, and to professional organizations whose expertise, experience, and products lead to the second-stage company’s continued growth and prosperity resulting in diversification and growth of Florida’s economy. GrowFL has helped over 1,000 companies create more than 4,000 new direct jobs statewide since 2009.
