2017 Manufacturing Champion Award

Honorees championed manufacturing driven initiatives in Florida Legislature.

Space Coast, FL (September 29, 2017) – During the 2nd Annual State of Manufacturing event, hosted by The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast’s (EDC) Regional Manufacturing Association (MASC), Florida State Senator Debbie Mayfield and Florida State Representative Tom Goodson were awarded the Manufacturing Champion Award for 2017. This award is presented to an elected official(s) for their support in manufacturing-driven initiatives in the Florida Legislature.

“The leadership of Senator Mayfield and Representative Goodson continues to fuel the Manufacturing Talent Asset Pipeline program, which builds targeted skills, creates jobs, and supports growth in the manufacturing-centric Space Coast region, now and in the future,” stated Lynda Weatherman, president and CEO of the EDC.

Senator Mayfield has provided a strong voice for creating education advancements to citizens and the opportunities available through education and training for manufacturing skills.

During her acceptance speech, Senator Debbie Mayfield commented on Space Coast manufacturing saying, “Brevard, the EDC and MASC should be proud of the great job they have done highlighting all that is happening in the manufacturing industry here in on the Space Coast, and I’m happy to be an advocate for such an instrumental and innovative industry.”

In addition, Representative Goodson has served as an avid supporter for manufacturing, and building skills to meet the sector’s needs for the future.

“I appreciate being honored with this award. However, I feel it is our responsibility to provide avenues for manufacturers to be more innovative and productive,” said Representative Goodson. “They are the behind-the-scenes economic drivers of items we use every day. Trying to help our industries succeed, provide jobs, and continue to grow is something that should be expected.”
