EDC Receives $75k to Champion Military Installations

The EDC was chosen to serve as the voice of military installations and their economic impact in Brevard

Brevard County, Fla. (June 30, 2015) – Governor Rick Scott announced the recipients of this year’s Defense Reinvestment Grants designed to protect, enhance and retain military installations and their contributions to the local economy.

Governor Scott said, “As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day, we are proud to announce more support for Florida’s military communities. Our thriving military installations and the economic investments they provide our local communities help make Florida the most military-friendly state in the nation. As a Navy veteran, I am proud to announce the combined funding from the Defense Infrastructure and Reinvestment Grant Programs, and the Defense Support Task Force Grant Program will provide more than $3 million of support for defense communities across the state. We are committed to continuing to make important investments to support the brave servicemen and women, veterans and military families who selflessly serve our country.”

The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast (EDC) was selected once again to receive $75,000 and continue its activities highlighting the positive economic influence military installations have in Brevard County.

Lynda Weatherman, president & CEO of the EDC stated, “We are privileged that Enterprise Florida recognizes the importance of our program of work which directly supports our military installations. This grant will ensure our local leaders remain the conduit between the Air Force, the Department of Defense and the community; all of which support the military’s footprint in Brevard County.”

The EDC’s military relations program successfully implemented initiatives in which the community and the military benefit. One such program is the current work associated with the Public-Public-Private-Partnership (P4). This strategic partnership allows the Air Force to enter into contracts with the local community which leverage the capabilities and resources for both parties.

In addition to supporting the P4 initiatives, Weatherman said, “The EDC will continue to work and identify potential opportunities, deficiencies and areas that can adversely impact the continued improvement of military value and development of Patrick/Cape Canaveral and major tenant units.”
