EDC Hosts U.S. Congressman Patrick Murphy

in Aerospace Policy Roundtable

2016 US Senate Candidate listens to industry leaders in Brevard County

Brevard County, Fla (February 5, 2016) – The Economic Development Commission (EDC) of Florida’s Space Coast hosted U.S. Congressman Patrick Murphy, 2016 US Senate Candidate at the Melbourne Hilton Rialto, to discuss national aerospace policies.

US Congressman Patrick Murphy’s visit to the Space Coast and his participation in our aerospace roundtable raised national awareness of our aerospace industry and its needs in order to remain competitive and viable. “Today’s aerospace roundtable deepened my commitment to reasserting American leadership in space,” said Murphy. “The new future in commercial space has incredible opportunities for the people and businesses of Florida. Whether it’s the continued pursuit of human exploration, space tourism, or mining asteroids, Florida is positioned to capture this future and I look forward to continuing to be a part of that growth and opportunity to create new jobs for Florida families.”

Companies representing a wide variety of aerospace initiatives were in attendance and together, advocated the significant role Brevard County plays in these programs impacting the national stage.

“This EDC continues to serve as a succinct voice for aerospace. We provide national candidates an audience with industry leaders communicating a unified message on the importance of the aerospace industry to our economy both locally and nationally,” stated Lynda Weatherman, president & CEO of the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast.

Since 2008, the EDC has engaged multiple candidates seeking high office to educate, advocate and understand aerospace policy positions. The EDC has had the privilege to engage such candidates as then-Senator Barack Obama, Senator John McCain, Senator Marco Rubio, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Governor Mitt Romney and Congresswoman Sandy Adams.

Today’s Roundtable is one of many being planned by the EDC specifically targeting presidential and congressional candidates throughout the 2016 election season.
