Lagoon-Restoration Technology Hackathon Brings Innovation Solutions to Table

Space Coast, FL (November 9, 2018) – While many of us slept over this past weekend, over 100 tech enthusiasts went to work to identify and develop technology solutions to restore health to the Indian River Lagoon (IRL). Hosted by high-tech incubator, Groundswell Startups, the 36-hour marathon event “Hack the IRL” brought together 16 diverse groups who worked collaboratively to compete for prizes worth over $4,400.

Space Coast, FL (September 21, 2018) – The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast (EDC) and GrowFL are pleased to announce that 8-koi, Alluvionic, Inc. and Structural Composites, Inc. are among 50 statewide honorees selected for the 2018 Florida Companies to WatchSM. These companies were selected from more than 500 nominees for the award, hosted by GrowFL, a statewide economic development organization, in association with the Edward Lowe Foundation.

Manufacturing on Florida’s Space Coast Is On the Rise

Space Coast, FL (September 21, 2017) – Florida’s manufacturing GDP has been on a steady incline since 2001. However, Brevard County’s is rocketing. While the nation and Florida’s has increased about 50% since 2001, the Space Coast’s manufacturing GDP has climbed over 200%. These statistics were announced by James Heckman, state economist for Florida’s Department of Economic Opportunity, at the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast’s (EDC) 3rd Annual State of Manufacturing Event, which is hosted by the EDC’s Manufacturers Association of Florida’s Space Coast (MASC).

EDC and Groundswell Partner for Lagoon-Restoration Technology Hackathon

Space Coast, FL (September 17, 2018) – The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast (EDC) and Groundswell Startups have partnered to bring “Hack the IRL”, a 36-hour marathon event in which teams will engage in workshops and intensive product development, all aimed at developing technology to help restore the Indian River Lagoon (IRL). The event, which will be held on the weekend of November 2, is open to participants of all skill sets, concluding with a grand prize presentation on Sunday, November 4th.

EDC Joins Governor Scott in Welcoming Walmart to Cocoa

Space Coast, FL (August 23, 2018) – Yesterday, the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast (EDC) joined community leaders, including Governor Rick Scott, at the grand opening of Walmart’s new $145 million grocery Distribution Center in Cocoa, FL. The EDC first announced Walmart’s plans in July of 2017, after working with the Canaveral Port Authority, and the City of Cocoa to bring this project to the Space Coast.

GrowFL Announces 2018 Florida Companies to Watch Finalists

Space Coast, FL (August 22, 2018) – The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast (EDC) and GrowFL are pleased to announce that nine Space Coast companies are among the first round of 2018 Florida Companies to Watch finalists recently announced by GrowFL. The awards event, now in its eighth year, honors 50 select second-stage companies from throughout the state for developing valuable products and services, creating quality jobs, enriching communities, and broadening new industries throughout Florida. Chosen from a candidate pool of 134 growing second-stage businesses, the finalists collectively represented $518 million in annual revenue and employed 2,743 full-time equivalent employees in 2017.
